“Midori: A Dialogue on Being”
October 3 – November 7, 2026
Midori is a Japanese word that translates to “green” and originally represented “freshness”. In ancient Japan the midori word did not exist and the word Ao(i) was widely used to describe green and blue. Because of this history midori also can refer to either blue or green. They’re essentially considered the same — not visually, but conceptually. Rather than treating color as a flat, static property, the Japanese aesthetic views ao as “an atmospheric condition—a living spectrum that shifts with the humidity, light, and mist of the island topography and in fact signifying all sides of the atmosphere. The atmosphere itself and a living connection to the earth”.
Opening reception: Saturday October 3, 2026 3:30pm – 5:30pm
